Cobar to Cunnamulla We had a reasonably long drive of 420 kms to our next destination, Cunnamulla, so once breakfast was finished we packed up and headed off north. The first town was Bourke, 159 kms away. Here is a snap of the sign as we came to Bourke shire. However it was still quite …

Mission Beach

On May 3, 2022 By Born to TravelIn Australia, Photography, Roadtrip, Travel, Walking2 Comments

From Charters Towers we made our way out to Townsville and headed north to our next destination, Mission Beach. The road in has several roadsigns unique to this area warning drivers to be wary of cassowaries. Formerly a very quiet village, Mission Beach is now a spread out centre over about 15 kilometres of beautiful …

Charters Towers – Day 3

On March 7, 2022 By Born to TravelIn Australia, Photography, Roadtrip, Travel, Walking4 Comments

On our first couple of trips into town we couldn't help but notice how many well preserved buildings there were. The previous day we had collected quite a few brochures from the Tourist Information Centre. One of them detailed a heritage trail so that's what I am going to post about this time. One Square …

The next morning we drove back into town, parked and walked up to the nearby Tourist Information Centre, which was housed in a small building next to a grand old bank. Things to do In Charters Towers A very helpful lady soon had us looking at a variety of options of how to spend the …

Charters Towers – Day 1

On February 1, 2022 By Born to TravelIn Australia, Photography, Roadtrip, Travel, WalkingLeave a comment

The rest of our drive to Charters Towers was pretty smooth driving and finding our caravan park, Big 4 Aussie Outback Oasis Caravan Park, on the edge of town was equally easy. We were soon set up and eating lunch next to our caravan. Lunch finished, we took a bit of a rest. However after …

Hughenden

Winton to Hughenden Our next planned stop was Hughenden. Once again we found we could not make a booking at the one and only caravan park but having now stopped at Showgrounds in both Barcaldine and Winton we felt this could be possible again. So off we headed, north east along State route 62. Not …

Yeppoon – Day 4

On June 9, 2021 By Born to TravelIn Australia, Photography, Roadtrip, Travel, Walking2 Comments

For our fourth day based in Yeppoon we decided to stay closer to 'home'. In the morning we took a ten minute drive up to nearby Lammermoor so we could do some walking in their Native gardens. On their information board they showed seven possible walking zones on multiple trails. We parked at the Lioness …

Byfield State Forest day trip

On June 7, 2021 By Born to TravelIn Australia, Photography, Roadtrip, Travel, Walking2 Comments

After another leisurely start to the day of breakfast followed by cut lunch preparation we drove north about 10:00 from Yeppoon to Byfield State Forest for the day. Initially we headed to the Upper Stoney day use area. As we left our parked car we couldn't help but notice the amazing reflection in the Stoney …

Yeppoon – Day 1

On June 1, 2021June 1, 2021 By Born to TravelIn Australia, Photography, Roadtrip, Travel, Walking2 Comments

Nothing like a sleep-in to make you realise you're on holidays. After driving 2100kms in the previous six days it was wonderful to not have to wake up early and hit the road. So after a late breakfast and a casual read of the news online we headed off for a walk at Mulambin Beach, …

Tom Price

On May 27, 2019 By Born to TravelIn Australia, Photography, Roadtrip, Travel, WalkingLeave a comment

Due to our tyre blow out, the next morning we hitched up the caravan and headed out of Karijini National Park, to the nearest town of any size, Tom Price, a Rio Tinto mining town. After booking in at the caravan park and eating lunch we drove to the industrial area in the early afternoon …

On our return from walking the Mill Bay Boardwalk in Narooma we were pleased to see this seal up quite close. Check out photo 3 to see why. I’m guessing it knows a free feed is coming up every time it sees fishermen cleaning up their catch. It also hung around for a free shower too!
Mill Bay boardwalk in Narooma. Such a peaceful place to take a walk.
Love this Aussie flavoured street art on a toilet building in Narooma created by their high school students.

Speeding to Tokyo

Speeding to Tokyo

Having a good relationship with your travel agent is always important but even more so when you need to make quick decision and have them act on it. So it was the next morning when we Skyped our travel agent early. (Well it was in Japan but business hours were just starting back in  Australia.) […]

Beppu – Kyushu’s Hot Spring Town

Beppu – Kyushu’s Hot Spring Town

By now the corona virus situation was clearly not just confined to a few countries but an issue for every country if they didn’t take action. So we chatted with our son in Tokyo and our travel agent about what to do. Clearly our trip was going to be greatly shortened but we needed our […]

Fukuoka castle and Hakata temples

Fukuoka castle and Hakata temples

Staying in an apartment gave us the opportunity to prepare our own breakfast for  the first time in about ten days. After that we walked to the nearby Higashi-hie metro station and took a trip across to Tojinmachi Station. From there it was only a short walk to Ohiro Park. We came into the park from […]

Taipei

Taipei

As we drove to Melbourne Airport in my brother’s car we noticed peak hour was just about over. So we arrived in good time to check in just after 7:30pm for our 10:35pm flight direct to Taipei. The flight was about two thirds full and took off a few minutes behind schedule. As late dinner […]

Two Glaciers and a Chilean Ranch

Two Glaciers and a Chilean Ranch

We took an early breakfast and then walked into town to the travel agent’s office. From there we joined a busload of fellow travellers and were bussed out to Puerto Bories. Here we boarded our boat for the day. It wasn’t the most modern but had plenty of tables with seats. We sat down with […]
