The next morning we drove back into town, parked and walked up to the nearby Tourist Information Centre, which was housed in a small building next to a grand old bank. Things to do In Charters Towers A very helpful lady soon had us looking at a variety of options of how to spend the …

Moruya South Heads Beach. I always love watching waves at the beach. Great place for a walk too.
Loved this forest of Eucalyptus we drove through on the way into Bermagui.
Banksia tree flowering near Bermagui.
Views to the north and south from the Michael Lerner Lookout just south of Bermagui.
Some more shots of the coastline near Bermagui’s Blue Pool. Pretty happy to spot the seals in the last two photos with my zoom lens.
The Blue Pool swimming pool at Bermagui.
Near the blue pool area at Bermagui. Just love the colour of the water along the Sapphire Coast of New South Wales.
On our return from walking the Mill Bay Boardwalk in Narooma we were pleased to see this seal up quite close. Check out photo 3 to see why. I’m guessing it knows a free feed is coming up every time it sees fishermen cleaning up their catch. It also hung around for a free shower too!
Mill Bay boardwalk in Narooma. Such a peaceful place to take a walk.
Love this Aussie flavoured street art on a toilet building in Narooma created by their high school students.
Not far north from Merimbula is the lovely but touristy town of Tilba. Most of the shops are maintained in keeping with a village that is National Trust rated. It’s fun to explore the various shops and buildings. My favourite was the dairy - delicious cheese. The last photo shows number 10 Bate Street which has been renovated in recent times. The fence is the last thing to be done.
View of the lake at Merimbula from the boardwalk. You can see why they call it the Sapphire Coast when you see the colour of the water on a sunny day.
The point at Short Point Beach in Merimbula, just a short walk from the NRMA caravan park.
Short Point Beach in Merimbula, just a short walk from the NRMA caravan park. Lots of beach to walk or run on for Mel and us. Last photo shows a very tired dog after her leash free run around with a few other dogs.
A bit of action on the water at Paynesville as the ferry finishes crossing over to Raymond Island.
Some interesting street art in Paynesville. These two pelicans caught our eye.
Taking a walk at Paynesville.
Final flashback shot in this series. All the ladies in period dress to match the veteran cars.
Here’s a selection of close ups from the nostalgic line up of Veteran cars in Kingaroy last September.

Speeding to Tokyo

Having a good relationship with your travel agent is always important but even more so when you need to make quick decision and have them act on it. So it was the next morning when we Skyped our travel agent early. (Well it was in Japan but business hours were just starting back in  Australia.) […]

Beppu – Kyushu’s Hot Spring Town

Beppu – Kyushu’s Hot Spring Town

By now the corona virus situation was clearly not just confined to a few countries but an issue for every country if they didn’t take action. So we chatted with our son in Tokyo and our travel agent about what to do. Clearly our trip was going to be greatly shortened but we needed our […]

Fukuoka castle and Hakata temples

Fukuoka castle and Hakata temples

Staying in an apartment gave us the opportunity to prepare our own breakfast for  the first time in about ten days. After that we walked to the nearby Higashi-hie metro station and took a trip across to Tojinmachi Station. From there it was only a short walk to Ohiro Park. We came into the park from […]

Born To Travel Is On The Move

Hello, If you are a new reader I hope you have enjoyed reading about the beginnings of our travels in Taiwan most recently. Or perhaps you have read older posts previously as Karen and I have trained, bussed, driven and walked around Japan, Dubai, Spain, the Galápagos Islands, Colombia, Chilean Patagonia and, of course, Australia […]

Taipei

Taipei

As we drove to Melbourne Airport in my brother’s car we noticed peak hour was just about over. So we arrived in good time to check in just after 7:30pm for our 10:35pm flight direct to Taipei. The flight was about two thirds full and took off a few minutes behind schedule. As late dinner […]

Two Glaciers and a Chilean Ranch

Two Glaciers and a Chilean Ranch

We took an early breakfast and then walked into town to the travel agent’s office. From there we joined a busload of fellow travellers and were bussed out to Puerto Bories. Here we boarded our boat for the day. It wasn’t the most modern but had plenty of tables with seats. We sat down with […]
