Queensland Roadtrip – Day 38

Tyto Wetlands The next day we headed into town to the Tyto Wetlands which the bad weather and good company the previous day had put on the back-burners of our plans. After parking at the carpark at the Tourist Information Centre we checked out the map of the wetlands first. So off we went. It …

Longreach at last

On October 18, 2021 By Born to TravelIn Australia, Photography, Roadtrip, Travel, Walking4 Comments

Well. We finally reached Longreach just after midday. From Dromana it had been just over 2000 kms. The reality was that I had planned this trip during January of 2020 and due to covid19 lockdowns it had taken us nearly two years to actually arrive here with our caravan. The trip north had given us …

Enjoyed a Sunday lunch at Mollydookers in Apple Tree Creek. Lovely cold beer, good fusion of Canadian/Aussie food. Sadly Mel had to sit outside the courtyard fence.
Bargara beach views as we took Mel for a walk. Only a short drive from the caravan park in Bundaberg.
Crossing over the Burnett River whilst towing. Glad we only met another caravan and not a big truck.
Burnett River, Bundaberg.
When in Bundaberg……
The Chinese Garden at Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. Bundaberg and Nanning in China are sister cities.
Just loved the fabulous water dragons at the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens.
The Japanese Garden at Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. Very peaceful as no one else was there.
This post I’m focusing on the beautiful flora of the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. You should notice a bee and a bird too.
One more photo of the birdlife we saw whilst walking around the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. Ibis may not be a popular bird but I liked this one and it’s reflection.
Some of the birdlife we saw whilst walking around the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens.
Moving further south we came to Bundaberg. This shot is the first in a series where I reflect on the morning we spent at their Botanic Gardens. Not just trees, shrubs and flowers but lots of bird life, reptiles and peaceful trails. Dogs on leash are welcome too.
Framed view of Mt Marcom from the viewpoint at Mt Larcom Tourist Park.
Queensland- raining one day, sunny the next. Enjoyed a beach walk at Clairview as the sun came up.
After a rainy 5 hour drive south on the Bruce Hwy from Bowen we reached the BarraCrab Caravan Park in Clairview.
The lookout about Horseshoe Bay in Bowen doesn’t just give a view down to the bay below; it also has views out to the nearby islands.
The thing about staying in Bowen for a week is that the weather can change quickly from windy to sunny. So when we took the walk up to the lookout above Horseshoe Bay the second time it was much better, although little Mel did need to be carried a bit.
Views of Queens Bay in Bowen from little Grays Bay.
Queens Beach in Bowen. Our usual beach for a dog walk when we stay in Bowen.
It was blowing in Bowen when we took Mel for a walk at Kings Beach.

Speeding to Tokyo

Having a good relationship with your travel agent is always important but even more so when you need to make quick decision and have them act on it. So it was the next morning when we Skyped our travel agent early. (Well it was in Japan but business hours were just starting back in  Australia.) […]

Beppu – Kyushu’s Hot Spring Town

Beppu – Kyushu’s Hot Spring Town

By now the corona virus situation was clearly not just confined to a few countries but an issue for every country if they didn’t take action. So we chatted with our son in Tokyo and our travel agent about what to do. Clearly our trip was going to be greatly shortened but we needed our […]

Fukuoka castle and Hakata temples

Fukuoka castle and Hakata temples

Staying in an apartment gave us the opportunity to prepare our own breakfast for  the first time in about ten days. After that we walked to the nearby Higashi-hie metro station and took a trip across to Tojinmachi Station. From there it was only a short walk to Ohiro Park. We came into the park from […]

Hello, If you are a new reader I hope you have enjoyed reading about the beginnings of our travels in Taiwan most recently. Or perhaps you have read older posts previously as Karen and I have trained, bussed, driven and walked around Japan, Dubai, Spain, the Galápagos Islands, Colombia, Chilean Patagonia and, of course, Australia […]

Taipei

Taipei

As we drove to Melbourne Airport in my brother’s car we noticed peak hour was just about over. So we arrived in good time to check in just after 7:30pm for our 10:35pm flight direct to Taipei. The flight was about two thirds full and took off a few minutes behind schedule. As late dinner […]

Two Glaciers and a Chilean Ranch

Two Glaciers and a Chilean Ranch

We took an early breakfast and then walked into town to the travel agent’s office. From there we joined a busload of fellow travellers and were bussed out to Puerto Bories. Here we boarded our boat for the day. It wasn’t the most modern but had plenty of tables with seats. We sat down with […]
