Clairview to Mt Larcom
We awoke early to the sound of motor bikes. A group of motorcyclists had stayed at the BarraCrab Caravan park the night before. Given we were now awake we decided to take a walk along the beach before breakfast.

The sun had not long risen.

After our walk we ate breakfast and packed up. Within a minute we were back on the Bruce Highway. The drive went smoothly for about half an hour but again roadworks put a pause on our journey.

Due to its long stretches without a town the Bruce Highway is a dangerous road. So to help keep drivers alert signs have been installed with trivia questions.

The next big city was Rockhampton, a city that services the beef industry in this part of the country. We drove through, passing the beef cow statue and continued south.

We were now on what is known as the Pacific Coast Way.

Just before 13:00 we came to our destination, Mt Larcom. We just had to turnoff the highway to come to the Mt Larcom Tourist Park.

Mt Larcom had received a lot of rain the previous few days so backing the caravan up on a muddy unsealed road was a bit of a challenge but I managed it on the second effort without skidding the tyres.

Once we were set up we ate a late lunch. Next we did a quick walk up above the caravan park, where there was an excellent view to Mt Larcom itself, as distinct from the town. Sadly it’s in a National Park so we couldn’t go with Mel. However I could take a lovely framed photo through the wooden frame the manager of the caravan park had built.

Speaking of the manager, he and his wife had recently become the new managers and were upgrading things. The most obvious improvement was in the immaculate bathrooms. They even had bathmats in the shower cubicles! We also liked the signage and murals at the doors to the bathrooms. Here they are for the Gents’ bathroom.

The rest of the afternoon was spent doing a quick walk around the little town. If we had been there in June we could have attended their renowned Agricultural Show. Perhaps another time, along with climbing Mt Larcom.
