Halls Gap – Lakeview Lookout and Sundial Peak walk

Having found that the walk to the Pinnacle (click here for previous post) from the Sundial carpark was reasonably quiet we decided to take the trail to Sundial Peak from the same carpark the next day.

It didn’t take long to see our first wildflowers of the day.

We soon had our first view of the day too.

The path rose steadily as we climbed natural rock steps.

After a while it flattened out briefly

before climbing again, allowing us to pass massive granite outcrops to the side of the trail.

We were walking in quite dense bush.

More steps

before coming to the viewpoint. Here, Karen checked out a cairn.

The view was a really good reward for our effort we felt.

This photo shows the end of Lake Bellfield.

Further to the left we had this view.

To prove we had made it we took this snap with the camera resting on a rock set on a timer.

Heading back down we had slightly different views of the lake

and the bush for a while

before we came onto a boardwalk.

Lots more wildflowers to see now.

The forest was more open now

as we were well above the tree line.

It was certainly warming up, even for an October day, so I was pleased I had zip off legs on my hiking pants.

As we came closer to the carpark we had another splash of colour from some more wildflowers.

Back at the caravan park we ate our lunch of sandwiches outside and were entertained by a cheeky sulphur crested cockatoo.
