Mackenzie Falls is only 7 kms to the lovely Reeds Lookout or just over 18 kms from Halls Gap township. We included it as a part of a scenic drive to Reeds Lookout. (See previous post.)
After parking the car we followed the trail down to where the sealed descent began, passing some lovely wildflowers

and a stumpy tailed lizard who was quite happy to move away from us, but not too quickly.

Pretty quickly we had a good view of where we were heading down below us.

The falls are situated in a lovely bushland area.

This photo gives you an idea of the steepness of the path. However the fact it was sealed meant it wasn’t too difficult.

After about half an hour we came to an excellent view of the top section of the falls.

Within minutes we were level with the wider middle part of the falls.

Below us we could see the bottom cascade so on we descended.

Whilst snapping the bottom section I was happy to see a bit of rainbow effect in the photos I was taking. You also could feel the mist as the breeze changed direction!

Having admired the view here we began our ascent. After about fifteen minutes we had glimpses of the middle section of the falls.

Here’s a section of the falls I photographed using my telephoto lens. No getting wet.

Back at the top we were happy to sit down and have a drink before heading back to the caravan.
Next post we take another walk from the Sundial carpark, this time to Sundial Peak.
What a beautiful hike 🙂

Anytime you can hike with the sound of water nearby is a peaceful experience. We just love the fact that the walk accompanies the falls down multiple levels. The only downside of this one is that there’s a lot of heavy breathing to make the ascent back up to the main car park.
