Peak Hill to Moree
It was a very cool start with only 2 degrees in Peak Hill the next morning. Breakfast over we packed up and drove through the Main Street of Peak Hill and headed off towards Dubbo.

As we came into Dubbo we passed their lovely golf course. Another town to come back to in better golfing weather.

After making our way through the town we continued on through areas of farming land. Some was being grazed by sheep and some by cattle.

We were a little surprised by how many caravans were heading south. We were happy to be going north; in theory, to better weather.

At Tooraweenah we swapped driver in the rest area. There was a good view over to the Warrumbungles.

Not long after we came up behind a trio of oversized vehicles. It took awhile for us to reach some overtaking lanes where we could safely pass them.

Of course when we stopped for lunch they went whizzing past us again.

After passing through Narrabri we came to the inevitable roadworks again. This time we had to wait quite a while as one of the two lanes was completely closed.

Unfortunately after coming back into a situation where there were two lanes the road was unsealed and we had a truck going the other way flick up a stone. It hit the bottom of our windscreen and pretty soon we had a 20cm crack appearing at the bottom of our windscreen. Not good. Anyway we kept going.
Most of the little towns here had massive grain silos.

Just before 16:00 we came into Moree, our planned destination for the night.

Here’s our site for the night.

I then drove into town to the windscreen workshop. Given we were a long way from both Brisbane and Sydney it came as no surprise when I was told it would take two weeks for a windscreen to be delivered. However they did say it would be okay to drive up to Brisbane and it would be easier to get a new one fitted there. Back at the caravan park we took a walk around with Mel. The bar shed was well named

and rustically set up

but there was no one else there for a drink and a chat so we went back to the caravan instead and had a hot drink followed by dinner.

Moree to Warwick
Leaving Moree just after 9:00 we soon crossed the Gwydir River.

We noticed what, at first glance, looked like a lot of litter alongside the road

but on closer inspection it was obviously cotton. Lots of bits are whipped off in the wind as the trucks laden with cotton zoom along it would seem.

As we came into Boggabilla (typical pub on the corner)

we could see lots of baled yellow rolls of cotton at the edge of a paddock ready to be transported.

As we crossed the Macintyre River we entered Queensland.

Just around the corner was the memorial to famous racehorse Gunsynd. In her youth Karen had been a big fan so we stopped for a couple of photos.

It was interesting to look on the plaques at all the races Gunsynd had performed well in or won all those years ago.
Opposite there was a lovely wetland mural painted on a water tank.

We got back in the car and continued on. At Yelarbon we stopped to change driver and had a quick walk to look at their fabulous silo art, entitled ‘When the rain comes.’

Karen and Mel also tested out the old weighbridge that no longer works anymore.

The drive continued until we reached the outskirts of Inglewood. Here we stopped at a roadside rest area and made some sandwiches in the caravan. Whilst we were eating them heavy rain started. So we had to make a dash for the car when we decided to carry on. You can see how the weather had changed in this photo.

We arrived in Warwick, our stopping point, about 15:30 and set up the caravan in drizzly rain.

When it eased up we headed for a quick shower and after that enjoyed our dinner.

Sounds and looks like you’re having a lovely journey on your way up north. A shame about the cracked windscreen!😵💫 We’re continuing to pack and have 6 weeks until the move. A few boxes each day helps to get through it all. Heading to the warmer weather is certainly a good incentive for you both. Thanks for the update.

Thanks for your comment. The drive is long but varied. It’s good that we were able to have the windscreen repaired when we reached Brisbane. The warmer weather arrived but so did a lot of rain.
Happy packing. Cheers, Mark
