Sydney Weekend Trip

Day 3

After a late Sunday breakfast we took another walk. Jay guided us through Crows Nest and Waverton to Waverton Park. We passed a fascinating succulent garden just before we came to the park.

Then we followed this path down.

At the bottom of the park we came to a good viewpoint across to the bridge.

Balls Head Reserve was where Jay had brought his Japanese girlfriend for the views across to the city and Sydney Harbour Bridge on New Years Eve.

We walked further along the path and the Sydney Opera House came into view, below and beyond the bridge. Here’s a shot of the view in that direction.

Next we climbed some steps up to a lookout.

Here’s the view from the top of the lookout

and here is the view south across Berrys Bay to the Balls Head Reserve with Sydney in the background.

As we left the lookout we noticed this signboard. Apparently the lookout is named in honour of Will Ashton, an artist who lived and painted here.

Can understand why he loved to paint the scenery here.

We made our way back up, yes up, to Crows Nest and ate lunch at one of the many cafes. Well, as you can see my choice was actually second breakfast.

Late afternoon we took the bus into the city and then the train out to the airport for our flight back to Melbourne. This time QANTAS didn’t let us down. By the time we picked up Mel from our sons, who’d been looking after her for the weekend, and drove home it was nearly time for bed. Ah well, it had been lovely to see Jay and a bit more of Sydney that isn’t on the tourist trail.
