Adelaide Farmers’ Market

The next morning we made our way into Adelaide Station again on the bus before taking a tram down to the showgrounds, a ten minute tram ride to the south of the city.

From the tram stop it was a short walk to the showgrounds. As we approached the showgrounds we noticed a caravan and camping area. That could be useful on another trip to Adelaide if we brought our caravan.

Along the street the walls of the showgrounds were adorned with a fabulous outdoor art gallery of murals. A couple were more serious

but most captured the fun of the annual show.

After walking along the wall we finally found the entry gate

to the market.

Certainly you could buy fresh produce here but we didn’t need that whilst on a mini-break

so we looked around at the take away food stalls with more interest.

When he knew we were in Adelaide one of our sons, Todd, mentioned we should look out for one of his old friends whose family run a couple of stalls at the market. We quickly found his mum running a stall for take away Indian food

and later on saw him for a quick chat at their Indian spice stall. After looking around for about an hour

we made our way back to the tram stop where we had about a ten minute wait for the next tram.

Once arriving back in the city we had a look around the shopping precinct. Like Melbourne there are some excellent late 19 century/early 20th century buildings to admire.

Many repurposed from their original use.

This old arcade was lovely too.

We did a bit of window shopping for a while. Again we were impressed with another mural

as we made our way to the Palace Nova cinema where we took in the biopic Bob Dylan movie, A Complete Unknown. It’s a movie we can certainly recommend – loved the music. As we made our way back to the bus stop we passed this lovely pub, a modern version of a British classic.

We were soon back at our apartment at the Levi Adelaide Holiday Park where we spent a restful hour or so before driving down to the Sussex Hotel in Walkerville for dinner. Delicious food in a quiet dining area.

Next post we begin our roadtrip home, travelling from Adelaide to Horsham.
