Having seen items about Adelaide market on several travel shows on TV we decided we should go and see for ourselves. After breakfast the four of us headed into the city. We were able to find a car park near the market.
The entry way had a couple of very colourful signboards.

Soon we were making our way through the very busy market. All the usual fruit and veg, cheese, meat, fish and chicken stalls could be found.

Clearly many visitors like us had joined the locals. Quite a few were gathered around a cooking demonstration being conducted with some Carlton football players who were in Adelaide for the Gather Round games.

Some of the specialty stalls attracted our attention.

The cake stall looked inviting but we had eaten a good breakfast so we avoided temptation.

The flowers

and this Dragon fruit display were stunning.

After looking around a while we bought some local honey and some nuts as we didn’t need the usual fresh produce whilst we were away.

Lots of food was being cooked. The paella was too hard to resist so one of our group tried that for an early lunch. Karen and I decided to go with baguettes as we would be eating out that night.

Next up Karen and I decided to go up to Rundle Mall and have a look at the AFL footy displays. As we left the market Her Majesty’s Theatre could be seen as we made our way up to a tram stop on foot.

Once on a tram we enjoyed looking at the heritage buildings along the way.

Alighting from the tram at Rundle Mall we walked along. A couple of sculptures caught our eye. First up , a giant pigeon.

Secondly some pigs – probably a reminder to put rubbish in the bins.

There were a few activity centres for kids, given it was school holidays in South Australia. I posed next to this massive football.

For those needing a rest there was even a lounge area to sit and watch past finals.

After a look in a few of the shops we made our way back to the tram stop and met our friends back at the market area. Our team was holding a training session in West Adelaide that afternoon so we drove down for a look, with a small crowd of other keen Melbourne Demons fans.

Even though it was meant to be a light session we thought it was not a crisp, skilful session and we feared for what might unfold when we played two nights later. (More about that in an upcoming post.)

Once the session was ended we drove back into the city. It was quite busy but we eventually found a car space near the Botanic Gardens. We walked across Rymil Park Gardens past the lake

and made our way into Rundle Street to look for a restaurant. A few were booked out but we found a table at Chakna Indian Restaurant.

It didn’t take long for our orders to arrive. The food was delicious and soon finished.
From there it was a short walk back to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. We had booked a time to go into the evening session for the Chihuly Nights Glass Sculpture exhibition.
You can read about that next post as well as see my photos of the amazing glass sculptures.
The usual fine pics of another colorful locale. You had quite the busy agenda, love the public outdoor art and murals in your country. Thanks for sharing.
