After a good night’s sleep we were awake about 8am. Breakfast was quickly eaten and we were on our way by 9am. About half an hour later we came to the charming town of Kaniva. The sign at the start of the town

followed by the metal artwork alluded to the fact that Kaniva is an arty little town.

Sure enough as we drove into town we could see a stunning piece of silo art. So we turned off to take a closer look.

Along the way we noticed a series of colourful sheep. Karen really liked this one so I took her photo with it in the foreground and the mural in the background.

Personally I liked this one promoting their Historical Museum.

Back in the car we drove on and within fifteen minutes we arrived at the Victoria/South Australia border. What we had forgotten was that you can’t take fresh fruit between states in Australia so rather than throwing them out Karen and I ate the two apples we were carrying before I posed for a photo at the border sign.

We continued our drive. About half an hour further along we ended up behind a truck heavily laden with hay bales.

Fortunately it turned off as we approached Bordertown.

Just before 11am we reached Tintinara and stopped to swap drivers. The Tourist Information Centre was beautifully painted.

The next town was Coonalpyn. It too had some lovely artwork. This mural is spectacular.

The silo art was a complete contrast to the silo art back in Kaniva. This artwork made clever use of the original material that the silo is constructed with.

There was even a frame to take a personalised portrait.

Our drive resumed after a visit to the post office cafe there. An hour later we came to Tailem Bend with good views down to the Murray River.

Eventually we arrived at the Adelaide Hills and began our descent towards the city

and into the east suburbs of the city. Adelaide is sometimes known as the City of Churches and we could see why.

We finally arrived about 14:00 at Vale Park. After checking in at reception we parked at our accommodation. It was lovely old mansion that had been partitioned into four separate studio apartments. We were in number 1.

After unpacking we heard our friends arriving in the apartment opposite us. We had a chat and a drink before changing to head into the city for dinner. (Sorry, no photos as we were too busy eating, drinking and chatting!) Our mini break in Adelaide was off to a good start.

Distance travelled – 360 kms
Next post we take a day trip down to the Fleurieu Peninsula.
I love the colourful sheep!
