Day 3 of our Big Caravan Trip
Following another good night’s rest and breakfast we packed up and headed up the road from Gawler. Very scenic area with lots of vineyards, farming land and some lovely towns. One that caught our eye was Auburn with some well preserved old buildings- may come back sometime. Along the way we discovered we weren’t the slowest vehicle on the road that day. It did take time for us to follow the others past this farmer though.
Eventually came to Clare, the centre of another strong wine growing region.
We noted they even have a Riesling trail for cyclists. The yellow leaves on the vines were very attractive that’s for sure.
We continued on. At the small town of Yacka we swapped over who was driving. It was a very well cared for town with a very wide main street.
From there the land reverted back to wide open paddocks to our left
and the beautiful southern Flinders Ranges to our right. We actually stopped at a rest area with a view for lunch before continuing on towards Port Augusta.
As we approached Port Augusta we had quite a good view of the Spencer Gulf. On arrival in Port Augusta we drove to the Shoreline Caravan Park which backs onto the gulf. After checking in and setting up we headed out to the Australian Arid Lands Botanical Gardens..More about them in my next post.
